Dr. Morell serves as the Eugene S. Wiener Endowed Chair and Professor and Chair of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Co-Director of the Heart Institute of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and the VP and Chief Strategy Officer of the Heart and Vascular Institute. He also serves as Program Director of the ACGME-accredited Congenital Cardiac Surgery Fellowship. Dr. Morell received his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine, Ponce, Puerto Rico. He then completed his surgical residency at Robert Packer Hospital-Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, Pennsylvania, followed by his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and congenital cardiothoracic surgery fellowships at Boston Children’s and at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London, England. He is an internationally recognized congenital heart with significant expertise in complex transposition of the great arteries.
