I am currently working as Chief of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Division at Christus Children’s and Associate Professor of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine I have been practicing in the field of cardiac surgery for more than 20 years. I had my MD-PhD at the University of Murcia, Spain and I am Board Certified by the European Association of Cardio-thoracic Surgery (EACTS). I performed a 3-year fellowship (1 research and 2 clinical) at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. My main area of expertise entails congenital heart disease, including neonatal, pediatric and adult surgery. In the last 10 years, I have performed more than 1300 procedures as primary surgeon and including the entire spectrum and complexity of neonatal, pediatric and adult congenital and acquired cardiac surgery. I have more than 60 PubMED indexed publications with more than 1300 references and an h-index and i10-index of 20 and 34, respectively. I have received competitive public and private funding for research as principal investigator, The John Maxwell Chamberlain Memorial Prize from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and the Young Investigator Award by the European Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS).
