Konrad Hoetzenecker, MD, PhD, MBA, earned his medical degree from the Medical University of Vienna, where he also completed his doctoral thesis and
trained in thoracic surgery. He joined the faculty of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at the Medical University of Vienna in 2016. In 2017, he was appointed
the director of the Vienna Lung Transplant Program, which, under his leadership, became the largest program in Europe. Dr. Hoetzenecker now serves as the surgical director of the Vanderbilt Lung Transplant Program. His research interests include donor lung preservation, advancing surgical techniques and improving patient outcomes after lung transplantation. His main clinical focuses are adult and pediatric lung transplantation and surgery of the airways.
