Born and raised in Chile. Med school at University of Chile from1987 to 1995. General surgery residency at the Catholic University in Santiago, Chile from 1995-98. Cardiothoracic surgery residency at the same hospital 1998-2000. Cardiovascular surgery felloship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland from 2000 to 2003. I was awarded the 2000 Favaloro International Fellowship award. I went back to Chile for 18 years where I was the Chief of Cardiovascular surgery department at Las Condes Clinic and Hospital San Borja Arriaran. I started my carreer as a heart failure surgeon doing transplants and VADs but then I developed my true passion of percutaneous treatment of the aorta and valves. I did many first in man research devices like the cardiomems pressure wireless sensor, navigate mitral valve, single cannula for VA Ecmo and some others. I moved back to USA to Codirect the newlly formed Aortic Center at the Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute (HHVI) at University Hospitals since 2019 where I practice until today.
