Dr. Moriarty is a specialist in cardiovascular and interventional radiology at UCLA. He is a Health Sciences Clinical Professor in the departments of Radiology and Cardiology, and serves as the Vice Chair (Clinical Research) of the Department of Radiological Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Moriarty is a national and international leader in the field of venous thromboembolism, DVT, PE and clot management. He has led several large international trials in this area, given over 200 invited lectures, published over 100 papers, book chapters, and been recognized with awards such as LA Top Doc. He has leadership roles several national societies dedicated to PE, DVT and Interventional Radiology.
His areas of clinical expertise and research interest include venous disease, stenting, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), IVC filters, peripheral arterial disease and arteriovenous venous malformations. His expertise also includes the use of advanced imaging scans for cardiac and vascular disease diagnosis and management, as well as delivering highly precise vascular therapy to control bleeding, treat tumors and shrink malformations (embolization).
Dr. Moriarty obtained his medical degree from University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland, where he graduated with First Class Honours (Summa Cum Laude) in both Medicine and Surgery. After completing his internship in both medicine and surgery, he commenced his internal medicine residency in the Mater University Hospital, Dublin, and completed his board certification in Internal Medicine in 2005. Dr. Moriarty commenced his radiology residency in 2005, also in the Mater Hospital. He served as Chief Resident and also received the Radiologic Society of Ireland Gold Medal in 2007. Dr. Moriarty moved to UCLA in 2009 where he completed fellowships in Interventional Radiology and Cardiovascular Imaging. Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Moriarty accepted a faculty position at UCLA.
