Fawwaz R. Shaw, M.D. Assistant Professor of Surgery, Surgical Director of Pediatric Heart Transplantation and Advanced Cardiac Therapies, Associate Program Director Congenital Cardiac Surgery Fellowship, Emory University/Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
I received my MD at the American International School of Medicine in Georgetown, Guyana and completed residencies in family medicine and general surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center,- Memphis. My cardiothoracic and congenital cardiac surgery residencies were completed at the University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital. Prior to joining the faculty at Emory University in 2018, I was an assistant professor of surgery in the Department of Surgery at West Virginia University, and surgical director of extracorporeal life support at WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. I currently serve as the surgical director of the pediatric heart transplant and advanced cardiac therapies program and the associate program director for our congenital cardiac surgery fellowship. I enjoy the breadth of congenital cardiac surgery especially advancing the field of pediatric mechanical circulatory support and am committed to the education and training of our future colleagues in this field.
