Dr. Marc Pelletier is the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at University Hospitals and holds the Jay L. Ankeney Professorship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He is the Heart Surgery Director at the Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute. He arrived from Boston, where he was a cardiac surgeon in the division of cardiac surgery at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he served as the surgical director of the TAVR program. He joined this group in 2016 after 9 years as head of cardiac surgery at the New Brunswick Heart Centre, which followed a period as assistant professor at Stanford University. Dr. Pelletier trained at McGill University in cardiac surgery and Stanford University in cardiothoracic transplantation and ventricular assist devices. His areas of specialty include TAVR procedures, minimally invasive valve surgery, aortic valve and aortic root surgery, surgery for heart failure and minimally invasive coronary bypass surgery. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications, with over 120 abstracts accepted at scientific meetings and over 110 invited and local talks. He was chair of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada’s examination board in cardiac surgery from 2014-2018 and in 2018 received the Larry Cohn Outstanding Teacher Award for surgical education. In 2021 he was awarded the Distinguished Surgeon designation at University Hospitals and has been named one of Cleveland’s Top Doctors (2021,22,23,24).
