Dr. Brown is a general thoracic surgeon with expertise in thoracic oncology including cancers of the lung, esophagus, thymus and chest wall. She has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of patients with benign esophageal diseases including hiatal hernia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and achalasia. Dr. Brown has had advanced training and experience using minimally invasive surgical approaches including thoracoscopic (VATS), laparoscopic, endoscopic and robot-assisted surgery. Dr. Brown has a Master of Advanced Study degree in Clinical Research and a Certificate in Implementation Science, both of which she earned at UCSF. She serves as the Vice Chair of the STS Workforce on National Databases and the Chair of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Task Force. Dr. Brown is an expert in Health Services Research and her research focuses on patient-centered care for thoracic surgical patients including patient-reported outcomes, health-related quality of life, and postoperative pain management .
