I am a proud graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine, Class of 1989. I trained in General Surgery at Creighton and went on to train in Cardiothroacic Surgery at the University of Washington, completing my training in 1997. I have been in a hospital employed setting in St. Joseph, Missouri since 2001 where I enjoy both adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. I am passionate about community health and medical literacy and have championed several programs in the area aimed at tobacco cessation, women's wellness and childhood obesity. The 4th Grade Challenge has been a part of the grade school curriculum here for over 10 years. My husband and I have 6 children and 7 grandchildren. My children were born during what I call 'The Dark Ages'; before maternity leave or paternity leave were more than just taking vacation, before work-life balance was a spoken idea, before mental health was a consideraton, before burnout was a recognized phenomenon. I am committed to making cardiothoracic surgery training and practice compatible with childbearing, parenting, partnering and living your best life on your own terms.
