Dr. Youseph Yazdi heads the Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering Innovation & Design (CBID), a center focused on healthcare design projects each year at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels. CBID Design Teams allow students the opportunity to work with world-leading experts across Johns Hopkins, including the Schools of Medicine, Engineering, Public Health, and Nursing, plus the Johns Hopkins Applied Research Laboratory.
Dr. Yazdi is also faculty in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Department of Biomedical Engineering and holds a secondary appointment in the Carey School of Business. He has over 30 years of experience in early-stage medical device innovation and design, including seminal patents in ultrasonic elastography, now widely used in breast diagnostic imaging. Before joining Johns Hopkins in 2009, Dr. Yazdi was Corporate Director of Science and Technology at Johnson & Johnson, where he focused on corporate strategies for innovation and growth in the medical devices sector. He earned a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Rice University, a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr Yazdi is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), and served on the leadership boards of VentureWell, Nexus Fund, BME-IDEA, Rice-360, and the Whitaker International Program. He also serves as Innovation Core Director and PI for NIH's BluePrint Medtech Hub at Johns Hopkins University.
Dr Yazdi is also Partner at Design Better Health LLC, a consultancy focused on guiding companies, universities, and physicians through the early stages of healthcare innovation.
