Felix G. Fernandez MD MSc is a Professor of Surgery in the Section of Thoracic Surgery, Emory University School of Medicine. He has previously The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) as Chair of its Workforce on National Databases. He has helped lead the STS in the development of risk models and performance measures for lung and esophageal cancer surgery. He served as PI on behalf of STS on study funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality examining longitudinal outcomes in lung cancer surgery patients utilizing STS data linked with Medicare claims data. In this work, his national research team conducted studies that will inform the selection of personalized treatment plans for patients with early stage lung cancer. He has also conducted research to examine patient reported outcomes (PRO) on lung cancer surgery patients using the Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS). His overall focus is to make the care of patients with thoracic malignancies safer, more effective, and more patient centered.
