I graduated from Oxford University Medical School and trained in cardiothoracic surgery at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London and at Duke in North Carolina. I was Director of Transplantation and MCS at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, England, where I worked for 12 years. I promoted minimally invasive lung transplantation and I was also responsible for the national implementation of DCD heart transplantation, including in pediatrics. I also specialize in aortic surgery, and established one of the first dedicated aortic surgery programs in the UK. I have a particular experience with the frozen elephant trunk procedure. In June 2020, I moved to Cedars-Sinai where I am Director of Aortic Surgery, and have helped to develop the lung transplant and DCD heart transplant programs.
