Maria Currie is a cardiothoracic surgeon and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine where she completed subspecialty training in heart and lung transplantation. Her clinical practice includes cardiomyopathy, coronary disease, valvular disease, heart, lung, and heart-lung transplantation. In addition, Maria has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Western University. Her research interests include cardiothoracic transplant organ allocation and postoperative outcomes. She has developed and evaluated software and surgical tools using machine learning, augmented reality systems, and haptics. Her work has appeared in The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Circulation, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, The International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery, IEEE and other peer reviewed publications.
