Jaymie Ang Henry MD, MPH is a force in the world of Global Surgery. Her many achievements and accomplishments are an aside to her driven approach in bringing her mission to bring Surgery to the Global Health stage.
A multi award-winning author, researcher, advocate, and thought leader, her focus has been on public health and diplomacy in Global Surgery. She has pioneered multiple advocacy and on the ground work on Essential Surgery, Neglected Surgical Conditions, and Global Surgery in international venues such as the WHO and UN; surgical capacity building in countries such as Kenya and the Philippines; country-level government advocacy in the US, UK, Kenya, Philippines, Fiji, and Mexico. She is the co-founder and Founding Executive Director of the Global Alliance for Surgical, Obstetric, Trauma, and Anaesthesia Care (G4 Alliance) and the International Collaboration for Essential Surgery (ICES). Her background with the World Health Organization Patient Safety Programme (PSP) and the Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (GIEESC) provided the foundation for her mission. She was the first to bring surgical issues to the UN SDG conversation, hosting high-level events with country partners.
She is most honored to have been granted the President of the Philippines’ Award for Outstanding Leadership and Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines finalists by the Philippine Government and recently, the Outstanding Young Thomasian Physician award for University of Santo Tomas 150th anniversary. She has been featured at Newsweek and Forbes as an Icon of Impact.
Jaymie’s accomplishments have opened doors nationally and internationally as she collaborates with healthcare professionals, non-profits and institutions to raise the profile of essential affordable surgical services as a public health intervention to save lives and prevent permanent disability worldwide. She is the executive producer, writer and director of the Global Surgery film, “The Right to Heal.”
