Thomas E. MacGillivray, M.D. is the Physician Executive Director of Cardiac Surgery at MedStar Health and Chair of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.. A graduate of Tufts Medical School, Dr. MacGillivray completed his general surgery residency, cardiothoracic surgery residency and served as the Chief Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition, he served as the Chief Resident in Cardiovascular Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. MacGillivray specializes in the surgical treatment of adults with congenital heart disease, acquired heart disease, thoracic aortic surgery and thoracic transplantation . He is the Immediate Past President of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Dr. MacGillivray serves as a member on the Editorial Board of the Annals of Thoracic Surgery.
