Dr. Lansman received MD and PhD (Biophysics) degrees in 1977 from the State University of New York. He trained under Dr Randall Griepp and also received training in cardiac transplantation at Stanford University under Dr Norman Shumway. In 1986 he joined the faculty at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, serving as Director of the Heart and Lung Transplant Program, and that year he and Dr. Griepp performed the first heart transplant at Mount Sinai. In 2002, he served as Interim Chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mount Sinai. In 2005 he joined the faculty of New York Medical College and Westchester Medical Center as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and he is currently is currently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Lansman has been a long-time organizer and director of The Aortic Symposium series.
