Julianna Buchwald is currently an MD/PhD student at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School. She received her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 2017 and conducted research at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under a Post-Bac Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) prior to matriculating at UMass Chan in 2018. She is currently in the lab of Dr. Anastasia Khvorova of the RNA Therapeutics Insitute at UMass Chan Medical School and collaborates closely with Drs. Ali Rabi, Richard Pierson, and Shannon Tessier of Massachsetts General Hospital Deparment of Cardiac Surgery. Julianna's current research focuses on developing novel small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutics for the treatment of ischemia-reperfusion injury during the organ preservation and transplantation process.
