Please explain the educational or technical point that this video addresses.: This video demonstrates the technical feasibility of robotic resection of tandem epiphrenic diverticula.
Please provide a 250 word summary of the surgical video being submitted.: We present an edited video demonstrating our approach and technique for robotic resection of tandem epiphrenic diverticula and esophagomyotomy in a patient with achalasia. We begin with mediastinal dissection and mobilization of the esophagus. Then we address identification and dissection of the epiphrenic diverticuli. We show strategies for exposure of structures in the proximal posterior mediastinum. Next we demonstrate robotic stapling of the diverticula and muscular closure. Finally we perform a esophagomyotomy that extends proximally above the diverticula and distally onto the stomach.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to describe the steps for robotic tandem epiphrenic diverticulectomy.
